Despite making up half of India’s population, the contribution of women to the economy is largely unrecognised. Less than a third of Indian women are engaged in paid employment, mostly in the informal sector. The remainder of women engage in unpaid, unrecognised and invisibilised labour, with their economic contribution devalued.
For the growth of the economy and society, it is important that more women be integrated into the workforce and their contributions be recognised. In this section, we share our ideas on how challenges to this can be addressed, and how decent and sustainable employment can be enabled for Indian women.
