The organisation is the Indian arm of a leading international non-profit. It is committed to addressing the most urgent needs of children by implementing programs that focus on areas such as health, education, and more. Thus far, the organisation has worked in 20+ States and Union Territories of India impacting over 14 million children.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STRATEGY ENGAGEMENT
The organisation relied on foreign funding as its primary source of funding, and therefore wanted to build a structured domestic funding mechanism for its programmes and for meeting its operational costs in the long-run. To achieve this, the client aimed to accomplish two key objectives. First, to leverage Sattva’s expertise for existing ecosystem knowledge related to funding and fundraising mechanisms. Second, to build a fundraising strategy, with the goal of enhancing its ability to secure external financial support and sustain its vital programmes.
OUR APPROACH
Sattva took up this strategy exercise in 3 phases over a 10 week period.
Phase 1 focused on mapping the organisation’s fundraising needs. We assessed fundraising collaterals, conducted a needs analysis to understand the organisation’s mission, Theory of Change, financial trends, and growth potential. Through interviews with senior leadership, board members, and a two-day workshop with programme leads, we gained insights into funding challenges and strengths. We also conducted due diligence to assess eligibility for different funder segments.
Phase 2 involved a two-day co-creation workshop with the organisation’s senior leadership to shape the fundraising strategy. Building on insights from Phase 1, we brainstormed strategic questions, including identifying target donors, selecting effective fundraising channels, and mapping donor engagement strategies.
In Phase 3, we finalised the fundraising strategy by developing a three-year strategic roadmap with key milestones and compiling best practices for donor engagement.
