Our client is a global supplier of spices.

This company initially engaged in community development through capex- and material-driven, need-based CSR activities. Their focus was now shifting to establish a long-term, sustainable agriculture programme to enhance turmeric cultivation across rural regions in Karnataka, with a clear alignment to their core business in spices.

OUR APPROACH

Sattva’s Strategic Approach for this Agri Flagship Programme:

Conducted diagnostic studies across 3-4 villages to understand demographics and challenges, including dependency on moneylenders, drought impacts, and excessive pesticide use.

Sattva developed a 3-year phased programme focusing on:

  • Capacity Building: Delivered training sessions to farmers on organic and sustainable techniques, drought resistance, and pest control. The company’s procurement team provided on-field demonstrations and shared best practices.
  • FPO Formation and Market Linkage: Organised farmers into FPOs with government support, establishing direct supply chain connections with the company to minimise the reliance on middlemen.

OUTCOMES and IMPACT

  • Expected Outcomes (until July 2027):
    • Increased Income: A 25% income increase for participating farmers by year 3 due to better crop management, enhanced quality, and direct market access.
    • Enhanced Crop Quality: Improved organic and sustainable farming practices resulting in high-quality turmeric and chili outputs.
    • Stronger FPO Networks: Fully operational, government-supported FPOs for long-term stability.
