Abhinav Bhatia

Partner, Innovation and Blended Finance

Abhinav leads Sattva’s Innovation and Blended Finance practices. His expertise lies in building financing structures for problems the market has not yet learned to fund, and in making those structures work in practice.

Sattva’s Innovation practice focuses on closing India’s translational funding gap, the stage at which promising research stalls for lack of capital, infrastructure, and market pathways. Abhinav convenes capital, academia, industry, and government to move Indian science and technology out of the lab and into use at scale.

Through the Blended Finance practice, he structures capital that makes hard problems financeable and holds that capital to outcomes. Abhinav has designed and mobilised over $50 million in blended capital, including outcome-based instruments, guarantees, debt, and fund platforms. He led the design of India’s first Skill Impact Bond and the LIFTed Impact Bond, extending blended finance into new areas. At Sattva, he continues to structure new vehicles for philanthropies, private investors, governments, and DFIs.

Before joining Sattva, Abhinav worked at the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) across education, livelihoods, and social finance, where he built the design, structures, governance, and measurement systems that allow outcome-based instruments to hold up. Earlier in his career, he advised governments and industry at KPMG, was part of the founding team of the Times Group’s higher education business, and worked in corporate finance and banking, handling asset transactions and debt syndication.

Abhinav holds an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Hansraj College, University of Delhi.
